Sense and Sensibility; Emma; Mansfield Park. A collection of three of Austen's works from the library of Edith Kermit Roosevelt, each bearing her bookplate. Tauchnitz editions of British writers were produced for English-speaking travellers on the continent, and Roosevelt likely acquired the books during her fifteen-week honeymoon tour of Europe with Theodore Roosevelt, whom she married in December 1886 in London.Austen's works were published individually by Tauchnitz as part of their Collection of British Authors series. An active and discerning reader, Roosevelt reportedly averaged four books a week: "a favorite author was Jane Austen, whose six novels she read and reread" (Mead).
