Offered together are two scarce original American serial parts of Charles Dicken's The Personal History of Experience of David Copperfield the Younger. These are Numbers 8 and 11 from the first American edition published in monthly parts during 1849-1850 - no later reproductions. The illustrations were engraved on wood by J. W. Orr from designs by Hablot K. Browne, better known as Phiz. These exceptionally fragile paper-covered serials were intended to be read and later bound, making surviving individual numbers with their wrappers, engravings, and advertisements increasingly difficult to find. A wonderful addition to a Charles Dickens collection, a David Copperfield collection, or a collection devoted to early American serialized literature.
