The second issue, after the first of 1976, of this Soviet Russian map covering the northern United Arab Emirates and northern Oman. It includes Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Ras al-Khaimah, Al Buraimi, Khor Kalba, Dibba, and Jumeirah, down to Sohar. It exemplifies the Soviet Union's cartographic efforts to map the Middle East during the Cold War, in the years between the 1973 Arab-Israeli war and the Iranian Revolution, when its influence over the Gulf was gradually waning. Abu Dhabi and Dubai are represented in minute urban detail, and both identified as cities with more than 50,000 inhabitants, while Al Buraimi and Sohar are shown as the second biggest urban conglomerates, though under 50,000 inhabitants. The map also marks airport sites, the urban area with building blocks and the main roads, as well as individual buildings. The topographical detail includes oil wells and infrastructure and traditional desert routes. The island of Abu Musa is also present, at the top of the map.
