Fundraising Prospectus for Prize Essays "On the Sinfulness of Slavery". A prospectus soliciting contributions to fund two prizes for essays "On the sinfulness of slavery; the best mode of terminating it; and the benefits that would result therefrom". Founded the year prior by Wilson Armistead, who signed the prospectus's introductory matter in type, the Society admitted men and women on equal terms. Included is a list of people who had already made donations, including Sir Edward North Buxton, Harriet Martineau, Lord Shaftesbury, and Sarah Wedgwood. The internal text is an extract titled "Extraordinary result of a prize essay in awakening the mind of Thomas Clarkson, and in turning his whole energies into the anti-slavery field", from Thomas Clarkson, A Monograph (1854).
