A very fine copy of this early edition of an influential and frequently reprinted textbook by the mathematician John Wallis (1616-1703), Savilian Professor of Geometry at Oxford. “In Institutio logicae (1687) Wallis put forward influential views concerning ways of treating singular terms as if they were general and conditional statements” (ODNB). Provenance: bookplate of Lord Sandys (1726-1797), from his library at Ombersley Court in Worcestershire.
