Oblomov. First complete edition in English, following the abridged edition of 1915 translated by C. J. Hogarth. Oblomov established the eponymous hero as a stock character in Russian fiction. Tolstoy viewed the novel as "a truly great work, the likes of which one has not seen for a long, long time. I am in raptures over Oblomov and keep re-reading it".Duddington was a close friend of the translator Constance Garnett, and assisted her in many of her translations before working on her own; "to her belongs much of the credit for spreading an appreciation of Russian literature in England" (The Times).
