London: Bloomsbury,, 1998. Signed in defence of spectacles First edition, first impression, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, "To Hannah - never forget, glasses are COOL. J. K. Rowling". Hannah was a classmate of Fiona Chadwick, whose letter to Rowling is printed in the book. At the pre-sale book signing the class attended, Rowling comforted Hannah after noticing the other children were teasing her for wearing glasses. Chamber of Secrets was published on 2 July 1998, following the Philosopher's Stone by a year. Sources suggest that an initial print run of 10,150 copies was released to an expectant British public, far in excess of the figure of 706 copies reported by the publisher and printer. Harry Potter was as yet unpublished in America, and a dispute arose when Amazon fulfilled orders for American customers by shipping them British copies. Octavo. Original matt laminated printed pictorial boards, spine and front cover lettered in white, green, blue, black, and red. With supplied dust jacket. Ends and corners bumped, page edges toned, soiling mark to fore edge, small crease to a few upper outer corners of leaves; jacket spine a hint sunned, else bright, couple of gentle creases, unclipped: a very good copy in near-fine jacket. Errington A2(a).
