Alaska’s Constitutional Convention by Victor Fischer, published by the University of Alaska Press in 1975 as State Constitutional Convention Studies No. 9 and ISEGR Report No. 46. Signed by Victor Fischer on the title page. Fischer was not simply a historian of the event: he was one of the 55 delegates to Alaska’s 1955–56 Constitutional Convention, where the constitution for the future State of Alaska was drafted. He later served in the Alaska Territorial Legislature and Alaska State Senate. The book examines the Alaska statehood movement, organization and proceedings of the Constitutional Convention, governmental structure, natural resources, legislative and executive powers, judiciary, local government, and Fischer’s conclusions on the success of Alaska’s constitution-making process. Published in Fairbanks by University of Alaska Press in 1975. The volume is approximately 6 x 9 inches and contains roughly 278 pages. Bibliographic records identify the work as part of the National Municipal League’s State Constitutional Convention Studies series.
