A very early exhibition catalog of Krentzin. Earl Krentzin (1929-2021) was a renowned American silver sculptor known for his whimsical and theatrical figurative works. Born in Detroit, Michigan, Krentzin graduated from Cass Technical High School in 1947 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Wayne State University in 1952 and a Master of Fine Arts from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 1954. Krentzin's artistic journey included a Fulbright Grant for post-degree work at the Royal College of Art in London from 1957 to 1958 and a Tiffany Grant in 1966. He taught at various institutions, including the University of Wisconsin, University of Kansas, and Florida State University. In 1961, Krentzin established himself as a self-employed silver sculptor in Detroit, a career he maintained until his passing in 2021. Throughout his career, Krentzin's unique silver sculptures gained recognition and were featured in numerous private and public collections, including the Cranbrook Museum, Detroit Institute of Arts, Museum of Contemporary Crafts, Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Smithsonian.
