This set compromises first Thomson editions of all titles bar Sense and Sensibility.Thomson (1860-1920) was celebrated in particular for his illustrated editions of English literary classics. He illustrated Pride and Prejudice for George Allen's "peacock" edition (1894) and subsequently turned his pen to Austen's remaining works for Macmillan's Illustrated Standard Novels series (1895-7). His "light touch and feeling for period manners provide a charming and accessible gloss to the author's work" (ODNB).
