This plate depicts the 6th century pagan temple of Bacchus, now with the colonnade walled in as part of Cardinal Francesco Barberini's restoration work in 1634, when it was reconsecrated as Sant'Urbano alla Caffarella, perfectly weaving the antique classical and baroque Christian strands that form the fabric of the 'Eternal City'. For the "Veduta di Roma", posthumous Rome edition, bearing the artist's Strada Felice address, but with the price of paoli 2 1/2 erased. Etching with engraving, on laid paper with crowned fleur-de-lys and Bracciano watermarks, third state with the price erased, 40 x 60 cm. F.753; H.48 III; W-E.184.
