Men, Machines, and Sacred Cows. First edition, presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper to the dean of Windsor, "Michael From Philip 1984". The book collects Prince Philip's speeches and essays from 1951 to 1983, covering topics from helicopters to price controls, and often pushing the limit of what a nominally politically neutral royal spouse could say.Michael Ashley Mann (1924-2011) was ordained in 1957 and held posts in Britain and Nigeria before becoming dean of Windsor (1976-1989), domestic chaplain to the queen, and registrar of the Order of the Garter. "Mann's rapport with the duke of Edinburgh was genuine and mutually enlightening" (ODNB). Letters between the pair were published in 1984 as A Windsor Correspondence. The book was included in the sale of Mann's library at auction in 2023.
