Dvořák's great Requiem Mass was composed in 1890 and first performed in Birmingham on 9 October 1891, with the composer conducting. This copy of the vocal score was presented by Dvořák to his friend the composer and choirmaster Karel Bendl (1838-1897), with whom he had been acquainted since the time of his studies at the organ school in Prague. 'Novello's Original Octavo Edition', signed ink inscription by the composed to Karel Bendl on the title-page; 8vo (250 x 165 mm); slight smudging to inscription and mild age-toning to text block, else internally near-fine; publisher's red cloth stamped in gilt and blind, gilt edges, mild wear and dust-soiling, spine a little sunned, else very good.
