A very good copy of the first book in the wonderful Eloise series. A rather surreal book, not least in its brilliant illustrations including the inventive 'life' fold out leaf. The author's inspiration for the eponymous heroine, was none other than her God-daughter, Liza Minnelli. First edition, first printing; 4to (29 x 20.5 cm); with drawings printed in colour by Hilary Knight; some marking internally and a littel loosening of the hinges but overall a very good copy; publisher's cream coloured boards, lettered in red (somewhat browned), illustrated dust-jacket, slight chipping to corners and spine ends, neat contemporary gift inscription to upper pastedown dated the the same year, 1955; otherwise very good and not price-clipped.
