The Varieties of Religious Experience. A Study in Human Nature. First edition of James's most popular and accessible work, one of the earliest books to apply psychological techniques to the study of religion. Considering the vast range of of religious experience, James concludes that individuals engage with reservoirs of consciousness-like energies during times of strife. The book was published on the day of his final lecture (9 June 1902), and although there is some uncertainty over the publication date of the American edition, it is widely agreed to be later than this UK edition.
