First edition in English, published and translated by the poet and bookseller William Hinchliffe (1691-1742) from La vie de Mahomet published the same year at Amsterdam by the freethinker Henri de Boulainvilliers (1658-1722). In his preface Hinchliffe expresses admiration for Muhammad and denounces popish corruption.
