Breakfast at Tiffany's first appeared in the November 1958 issue of Esquire magazine. This edition followed shortly after, printing the work with three short stories: "House of Flowers", "A Diamond Guitar", and "A Christmas Memory". The novella was the basis for the 1961 film of the same name, starring Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly. Capote originally sold Breakfast at Tiffany's to Harper's Bazaar, which hired the American photographer David Attie to illustrate the work and scheduled publication for its July 1958 issue. However, the publishers of Harper's Bazaar, the Hearst corporation, began asking for changes to the novella's language. Capote refused, but with Attie's photography already finished and publication scheduled, he was reluctant to pull the work. Hearst stalled publication and refused to run it over fear of backlash from Tiffany's, which was a major advertiser. Capote, furious, resold the work to Esquire, with the book quickly following.
