Three-book collection of The Penny Green Sampler Picture Books by Ellen Betty Brink, published in Indianapolis in 1970. Includes: • The Penny Green Sampler Picture Book — A Diary of Innocence (2 copies) • The Second Penny Green Sampler Picture Book — Dolls: An Album of Their Adventures At least two of the books are personally signed and inscribed by Ellen Betty Brink. These books are a 1970 reproduction project featuring illustrations originally created in the late 1800s. Brink's introductory material explains that the project was intended to bring back older illustrations, authors and illustrators that had been given little credit or were otherwise being lost to memory. The books identify individual original illustrations and their artists, including artwork dated 1877, 1880 and 1885. Copyright is credited to Ellen Betty Brink, 1970. The books were designed and printed in Indianapolis. An unusual little piece of Indianapolis publishing history and an interesting example of an effort to preserve 19th-century illustrated material.
