The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy. First edition, inscribed by the author on the title page, "To Stephe, Best Wishes, Douglas Adams". This Pan Books paperback is the true first edition, preceding the Arthur Barker hardback published later the same year. Adams's science fiction comedy was first broadcast as a series on BBC Radio 4 in 1978, prior to publication in book form. Loosely inserted into this copy is a mail order slip for the LP of the radio recording.
