In a Glass Darkly. First one-volume edition of the author's collection of ghost stories, including the vampire story "Carmilla", one of the first female vampire novels and only the third vampire story in English. Predating Dracula by 25 years, the story introduced many of the features that Stoker would go on to use.The collection includes four other short stories; "Green Tea", "The Familiar", "Mr Justice Harbottle", and "The Room in the Dragon Volant". W. B. Yeats "acknowledged a debt to In a Glass Darkly in the early versions of his play about Jonathan Swift, The Words upon the Window-Pane (1934)" (ODNB).
