First UK edition of the author's first book, presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper in black ink, "To Kathleen & Peter from Mary Norton, Christmas 1945". The UK edition was published two years after the US edition. This is the original title which formed the basis for the 1971 Disney film Bedknobs and Broomsticks.
