First edition, presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the title page in black ink, "Inscribed to Lady Carver with all good wishes, Christopher Milne, Dartmouth - 21.1.74". This is the first volume of Milne's memoir of his childhood.Milne later wrote in The Path Through the Trees that "an autobiography is quite unlike any other form of literature... its effect on the writer is considerable. In my case the writing and its reception combined to lift me from under the shadow of my father and of Christopher Robin, and to my surprise and pleasure I found myself standing beside them in the sunshine and able to look them in the eye".
