First British edition, the later Hogarth Press issue of the first translation into English of Freud's incisive analysis of mass movements, first published in Vienna in 1921.After some initial opposition from Virginia Woolf, the Hogarth Press took over the International Psycho-Analytical Library in early 1924, acquiring the bound and unbound sheets of this volume. These were then bound up as needed with the Hogarth Press imprint added to the spine.
