Hermaphroditos: The Human Intersex. First edition, inscribed by the author two months after publication on the front free endpaper, "With compliments, A. P. Cawadias, M.D. 27/9/43". This work reframed intersex as a natural variation on a continuous spectrum of gender and sex. Applying this philosophy, Cawadias supported Georgina Somerset to become Britain's first officially recognized intersex person to change her birth certificate.Alexander Polycleitos Cawadias (1884-1971) was a Greek physician who spent most of his career practising in London, specializing in endocrinology, metabolism, and holistic neo-Hippocratic medicine.
