Marriage. The Edinburgh edition, by the author known as the Scottish counterpart to Jane Austen, and likened by Sir Walter Scott as his "sister shadow". Like her more well-known contemporary, Ferrier wrote about the same elite section of society with similar humour and wit. This Regency-era novel was originally published in 1818. Susan Edmonstone Ferrier (1782-1854) came to know many of Edinburgh's notable figures, including Robert Burns, Henry Mackenzie, and Sir Walter Scott. The latter recognized her as a worthy successor to continue the Scottish novel tradition.
