Chapbook-sized softcover with a separately printed photographic cover image tipped onto the front wrapper. The image is mechanically affixed rather than artistically mounted, an apparent production feature of this small-format edition. Overby was a writer and longtime observer of Afghanistan who first traveled there during the Soviet–Afghan War. In May 2014, he disappeared in eastern Afghanistan while conducting research for another book and reportedly planning to cross into Pakistan’s North Waziristan region to pursue an interview with Sirajuddin Haqqani. An unusual and difficult-to-locate item for collectors of Afghanistan, U.S. foreign policy, post-9/11 history, the War on Terror, Central Asian studies, political ephemera, small-press publications, and writings by missing journalist/author Paul Overby.
