UNRECORDED. Not in OCLC and COPAC. The British Library have a run of Calendars for Surrey from 1871 to 1875. A list of 62 prisoners held at Newington (Southwark, South London) with details of the crime, verdict of their trial, the sentence and all the prisoners level of literacy. The calendar includes many women including the 23 year old “repulsive” and “masculine-looking” Harriet Green who was transported for ten years for the theft of a watch. “Harriet Green, a masculine-looking female, aged 28, was indicted for stealing a silver watch from the person of Thomas Finigan, under the following circumstances:- Prosecutor deposed that on the night of the 23d ult. he was passing Winchester-street, Southwark, towards High-street, when the prisoner accosted him and asked him to treat her. He refused, and was walking away, when she suddely snatched his watch from his waistcoat pocket and ran off with it. He called out ‘Stop Thief’ when a constable came in the direction the prisoner was running and stopped her. She had the watch in her hand, and gave it to the officer” ( Morning Herald , 1st November 1852). When Green was brought before the judge the trial was postponed so that the police could apprehend, “the man, who there was no doubt, was concerned with her in the robbery” ( Globe 21st September 1852) The gentleman accomplice was not located by the 25th September when it was recorded in the newspaper: “The Prisoner [Harriet Green] a repulsive-looking woman, who had a black eye, on
