The work expanded a series of articles first published in the Turkish newspaper Tercüman-ı Hakikat (Translation of the Truth).Sabri Paşa surveys settlement in the Hejaz, especially around Mecca and Medina, describing tribes, prophets, and emerging religions, with particular focus on the rise and spread of Islam. He gives a detailed history of al-Masjid an-Nabawī and other holy sites - their reconstruction, visitation practices, and the region's social and economic life.
