Notable for being, among other things, the first book publication - apart from the one-shot ÆSTHETIC PAPERS - of "Civil Disobedience." One of 1546 copies printed (or 1500 according to BAL). This copy bears the former ownership inscription in pencil of "J.H. Dillingham Haverford College PA." John Howag Dillingham (1839-1910), a professor of moral and political science at Haverford College, was prominent in the Society of Friends and served as editor of The Friend.
