Samuel Kidd (1799-1843) was an English Protestant missionary in Malacca for eight years, becoming professor of Chinese in the Anglo-Chinese College of Malacca, before returning in 1832 and being appointed professor of Chinese at University College, London. First edition; 8vo (23.5 x 15.5 cm); 15 plates including coloured frontispiece, plates foxed, armorial bookplate to pastedown; publisher's blind stamped cloth, gilt lettering to spine, small chip to spine head, a very good copy; xii, 403, 16, [4] pp.
