The Name of Action.
£5,750 · Offered by Shapero Rare Books
Elizabeth, Countess Russell's copy Greene's scarce second book, which derives its title from a snatch of Hamlet's famous soliloquy, 'With this regard their currents turn awry / And lose the name of action.' The author was dissatisfied with the work and, as with Rumour at Nightfall, disowned it and prevented it from being reprinted. First edition, first impression; 8vo; bookplate of Elizabeth Russell to front pastedown, two subsequent ownership inscriptions to front free endpaper, slight toning to textblock; publisher's dark blue cloth, titles to spine gilt, corners bumped, with the first issue dust-jacket, priced 7/6 on spine panel, somewhat tanned dust-jacket with traces of internal repair, otherwise a very good copy.
