The Change.
£6,500 · Offered by Shapero Rare Books
inscribed to Christopher Logue The first edition, first state of Allen Ginsberg's The Change, published by Writers Forum as part of their Writers Forum Poets series. Ginsberg's name was printed as 'Ginsburg' in this initial state and, as with most copies, has been rectified here by hand with black ink. The title of the book refers to Ginsberg's epiphanic experiences whilst travelling through India and Japan in 1963 that observers claimed changed his fundamental character, one notable aspect of this being his renunciation of drug use as a means to achieve enlightenment. A presentation copy, inscribed to British poet Christopher Logue (1926-2011). First edition, first state, inscribed by Ginsberg to Christopher Logue; (232 x 170 mm, 9 x 6¾ in); inscription to title page, twelve leaves, mimeographed recto only; side-stapled in illustrated green and black covers with linocut design by Jeff Nuttall, a little creasing to spine, light toning to extremities, a very good copy; [22]pp.
