This copy contains the original 1959 printed book block and photogravure photographs but has subsequently been rebound in a library-style hardcover binding. IMPORTANT BINDING NOTE: This is NOT the original publisher's binding. The original edition was issued in decorated boards with protective material and a slipcase. Those original exterior components are not present with this copy. The value and asking price reflect the later rebinding. The interior retains Richard Avedon's landmark black-and-white photographs accompanied by commentary from Truman Capote. Observations was Avedon's first major book and includes portraits of many prominent twentieth-century cultural figures, artists, writers, performers, and public personalities.
