First and only edition. Scarce. A delightful mid-Victorian book of fables and fancies, named after the eclectic English condiment to represent the variety of its contents. Beautifully illustrated with black and white engravings by popular artists and designers George Thomas and T. R. Macquoid. The book was only published once, making it rather difficult to find. In good to very good condition with the spine faded and bearing the mark of an old sticker which is no longer adhered, the edges slightly rubbed, light foxing in a couple of places, generally firm and attractive throughout. Bound in the original indigo publisher's cloth and adorned with a delicate spider's web and accompanying animals beneath botanical titles. Blindstamped at the edges and corners, all edges gilt. 19 x 14 cm. Pp. [viii], 110.
