A scarce work reproducing maps and engraved views of the battles recorded in Livy's Annales , from Hannibal's invasion via Cisalpine Gaul to Rome's disastrous defeat at Cannae in 216 BC. One of several compendia published by J. Vincent for students of the classics at the University of Oxford. This volume is principally concerned with the Punic Wars, in particular Hannibal's campaigns in Italy. 8vo (22.5 x 15 cm); engraved title-page, 8 double-page maps and plans, 11 single-page, 6 engraved plates of views, some containing two images to a page, slight browned, occasional spotting; contemporary boards, rebacked, original engraved label to upper covers a little soiled, extremities slightly rubbed, very good.
