This hardback volume of 309 pages is missing the dust jacket if one was issued. It was published in 1907 by the Historic Publishing Company. The binding seems to be fairly recent because it is in vg condition with very little wear. The upper right corner of the front cover is bumped. There is a page tipped in after the ffep that matches the front cover of a paperback copy of the book. We speculate that the softcover volume of the book was rebound as a hardcover and the original cover was inserted. The author, Finis Langdon Pike, presents a controversial theory that John Wilkes Booth was not killed in 1865, but instead escaped and lived under various aliases before dying by suicide in 1903 in Enid, Oklahoma. The book argues that the man shot at Garrett’s farm was a lookalike and that the government covered up Booth’s escape. The text of the book is clean and unmarked with no underlining, highlighting or marginalia. Binding tight. The covers are so good that the book may have been rebound recently.
