The posthumous collection includes a preface by the author adapted from a letter written not long before his death in 1982.Issued with the first volume is a loosely inserted bifolium of "Brief Synopsis for Alternate World Novel: The Acts of Paul", Dick's plan for an unwritten novel set in a world in which Paul of Tarsus was never converted on the road to Damascus, leaving Christianity to die out and Manichaeism to become the established religion.The trade issue comprised 400 unsigned copies.
