Epithalamion. First St Dunstan Edition, number 11 of 30 uniquely illuminated copies, signed by the publisher, a representative of the printer, and twice by the illuminator, Nestore Leoni. In this copy, the space in the colophon reserved for specifying the subscriber is left blank.Sproul conceived of a highly ambitious series of limited illuminated editions named for St Dunstan, a 10th-century clergyman and notably talented painter. Various illuminators were commissioned for the project, but the most prolific of them were the American artist Ross Turner, and Leoni (1862-1947), a major figure in the Italian illumination revival. In comparison to Turner, Leoni's art is more ornate and traditional, recalling medieval manuscripts.
