The brand list is divided into two sections, one for Portugal and the other for Spain, with the list for Portugal further organized by district and that of Spain by province. The list is preceded by extensive introductory material, including a section describing the origins and traits of each of the major breeds of horse as well as a section outlining each of the administrative districts in the region and the types of horses found there. At rear are errata and a table of contents. Among the four folding charts included in the volume is one giving the genealogy of the prize horse Rumboso, whose engraved image is featured at both the top of the chart and on the front wrapper of each of the present volumes. At rear is a folding map of the peninsula, printed in red and black, with horses' heads marking the locations of various stud farms. The brand book is accompanied by a separately issued appendix, published the following year in 1907. It includes supplements with additions and corrections to the original brand lists for both Spain and Portugal.
