A rare South American brand book, illustrating the cattle and sheep brands and ear marks of livestock growers from around the Magallanes region of Chile. The list of brands is numbered and organized chronologically by registration date, giving the names of cattle growers, their locations, and in some cases the size of their land (in hectares and/or the number of plots). The list of brands is followed by an illustrated list of ear marks. Introductory material includes an editor's prologue; the text of various laws and regulations around cattle branding; a list of notes and commentary on the various breeds of cattle and sheep; and a brief section on livestock in American with a particular focus on Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay. The volume also contains numerous advertisements, with the majority of the versos given to full-page ads for restaurants, hotels, banks, grocers, pharmacies, furniture stores, tobacco sellers, photographers, cattle brokers, wool agents, etc. The present copy bears an ink stamp on the upper and lower edges of the textblock that reads, "Antisarnico Cooper El Mejor," an ad for which appears on the recto of the second leaf. Based in Punta Arenas and owned and operated by "William Cooper & Nephews," the company apparently sold anti-scabies powders designed to treat parasitic skin conditions in sheep. R
