PULSZKY, Theresa. Memoirs of a Hungarian Lady. London, Henry Colburn, 1850. Two volumes, 8vo. Original publisher's blue cloth, spines lettered in gilt and all-over ornamented in blind; pp. vi, cxxxv, [1], 203, [1], 16 (advertisements); iv, 370; light marking to covers, extremities a little bumped; occasional light spotting; a very good set with the armorial bookplates of Henry Birkbeck to front fly-leaves, with his ownership inscription. First edition of the autobiography of the spouse of the prominent Hungarian politician and revolutionary Ferenc Pulszky. It offers an intriguing female perspective on the Hungarian Revolution of 1848, and the subsequent war of independence - the failure of which resulted in the couple being forced to flee to England, where she composed this account of the tumultuous period.
