Publication: Kendal, Westmorland Gazette, 1970 Formatting: Oblong 8vo, pp. [160]. Condition Report: Near Fine. The original red cloth binding remains tight and perfectly square. It displays bright, unoxidised gilt tooling to the front board and spine, with virtually no edge-wear or bumping to the extremities. Internally, the text-block is superb; the pages are crisp, bright, and entirely free from foxing, moisture damage, or tears. The hinges remain uncracked and fully intact. The accompanying dust jacket is remarkably well-preserved. It shows no significant sun-fading, edge-creasing, or chips, and presents cleanly without a printed price on the front flap. Catalogue Note: This is a first edition of Wainwright's second sketchbook, readily identified as an early printing by its original red cloth binding [later reprints from 1980 onwards adopted a uniform green cloth]. The volume is profusely illustrated throughout with Wainwright's intricate pen-and-ink landscape drawings, each paired with an explanatory map detailing the specific viewpoint and orientation. The dust jacket on this copy features a completely blank, unpriced front flap. This is characteristic of the limited number of unused overstock jackets from the original 1970 Kendal print run, which were later dispersed to collectors to marry with unjacketed copies.
