First edition

Publication: London, Effingham Wilson, 1830 Formatting: 8vo, pp. 224. Condition Report: Fair. The book presents with significant wear and damage expected of a volume of this age and grade, most notably a heavily split upper front joint that leaves the binding tender and somewhat loose, though the front board remains attached by the lower cords. The half-calf leather and marbled boards exhibit notable scuffs, rubbing, and edge-wear, with the corners heavily bumped and worn through to the underlying boards. The spine shows considerable rubbing along the hinges, with chipping at the head and tail, though the black leather title label and gilt tooling remain visible. Internally, the book is complete and the text remains perfectly legible, but the pages are affected by moderate foxing and spotting, particularly on the endpapers and preliminaries. Despite these substantial defects, this remains a structurally intact and historically significant copy of a scarce text, enriched by its provenance. Catalogue Note: A scarce first edition of Eleanor Dickinson's poem, The Mamluk. This copy is presented in an early nineteenth-century half-calf binding with marbled boards. The volume bears notable institutional provenance, having formerly belonged to the Glasgow University Library. The front pastedown features the university's engraved pictorial bookplate with the motto "Via Veritas Vita", which has been subsequently over-stamped with a "Withdrawn G.U.L." mark, alongside manuscript shelfmar
