PUTNAM'S SONS This original, 1954, first edition, free library, hardcover copy measures approximately 8“ by 9-1/4“ , contains over 35 profusely illustrated pages and retains its original, mylar protected, dust jacket. The book bears a circa 60’s style “Discard” stamp on the front free end paper, some yellowish discoloration running along the tape seals which secures the mylar to the cove, as well as a thiner, corresponding yellowish line on each side of the free end papers, however, with that said, the book appears to have been exceedingly well cared for and has subsequently prevailed in otherwise excellent condition. More specifically, the dust jacket has remained sealed virtually air tight under the seemingly archival quality mylar transparent film which also looks to have survived relatively unscathed over the last 72 years. On top of that, the binding remains strong and in tact, exactly as originally intended and the pages themselves are clear and bright with no rips, tears, scribble, writing, dog ears or damage or issues to report. * Small Pencil Price Marking Hidden In Seam Opposite Copyright Page (See Image No. 16). “The Animal Frolic is a reproduction of the Choju Giga or Scroll of Animals, a masterpiece of early Japanese art and humor traditionally attributed to Kakuyu (Toba Sojo), the founder of caricature art in Japan.
