Album Dédié a Tamar Karsavina. First edition, limited issue, number 85 of 500 copies printed on Vélin d'Arches. This splendid album celebrates the prima ballerina and star of Diaghilev's Ballets Russes, Tamara Karsavina, in some of her principal roles, with 12 hand-coloured pochoir illustrations by Barbier, each an exquisite example of art deco illustration at its best, and 15 poems by Vaudoyer. Vaudoyer wrote the ballet Le Spectre de la Rose, one of the most beloved productions in the Ballets Russes' repertoire, and the album contains a poem and illustration paying homage to Karsavina's performance alongside Vaslav Nijinsky in the work. Barbier also depicts Karsavina in what was arguably her most celebrated role, dancing en pointe beneath the golden apple tree as the original Firebird in the first production of Stravinsky's now-canonical ballet.Loosely inserted is a bookseller's ticket from Gilberte Cournand's La Danse collection. This copy comes from the collection of Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts, whose posthumous bookplate is included.
