Golden Soup — Ahavath Achim Sisterhood, Atlanta, Georgia — 1975 A wonderful vintage Jewish community cookbook compiled from 1973–1975 by the Ahavath Achim Sisterhood of Atlanta, Georgia. This substantial comb-bound cookbook is filled with recipes contributed by members of the congregation and preserves a wonderful slice of Jewish-American culinary and community history in 1970s Atlanta. The cookbook committee was led by President Diane Bernstein, Vice President Doris Goldstein, and Editor-in-Chief Harriet Draluck, with numerous congregation members serving as editors and committee members. The acknowledgments also recognize Rabbi Harry H. Epstein and Rabbi David Auerbach among the group’s advisors. Particularly appealing is the fabulous period design: a bright yellow cover, black comb binding and whimsical illustrated border surrounding the wonderfully evocative title Golden Soup. An original/early $5.95 price sticker remains on the front cover, matching the $5.95 price printed on the book’s original order form. CONDITION: Good vintage condition with age and use wear. Covers show rubbing, edge and corner wear, scattered marks/staining and some discoloration, including a more noticeable stained area on the rear cover. The black comb binding shows use but remains intact as photographed. Interior pages appear generally well preserved for a cookbook of this age.
