Collected Poems.
£375 · Offered by Shapero Rare Books
signed by the author A very good signed first edition of a great collection of Basil Bunting's poetry. Referred to by Donald Hall as 'the last minor master of the modernist mode', Bunting was first made popular with the 1966 publication of 'Briggflatts,' reprinted in this volume alongside others of his famous works, including 'Villon' and 'Attis: Or, Something Missing'. The auditory experience of language was incredibly important to Bunting's practice, and he often read his own work aloud, suggesting in his Advice to Young Poets, '1. Compose aloud; poetry is a sound'. First edition, signed by the author in pen to front free endpaper; 8vo; grey endpapers; publisher's black cloth, spine lettered in gilt, a very good copy with uncut dust-jacket designed by Barnett Newman, light toning to jacket; 160pp.
