Item: urgin, Victor. Victor Burgin. Eindhoven: Stedelijk Van Abbemuseum, 1977. Edition of 750 copies. Designed by Walter Nikkels, Dordrecht. Printed at Lecturis, Eindhoven. Translations by Joke Valentijn. Artist's catalogue for Victor Burgin (born 1941), the British conceptual artist and writer who came to attention in the late 1960s for work combining photographs and text within a single image, and whose practice engaged directly with semiotics, psychoanalysis and the politics of representation. The copyright page notes Burgin's earlier publications, Work and Commentary (London: Latimer), covering the period 1969 to 1973, and Two Essays on Art Photography and Semiotics (London: Robert Self Publications, 1976), collecting writings first published in Studio International. It describes the present book as, in a sense, the sequel to Work and Commentary. One of a group of artist catalogues the Van Abbemuseum issued in the late 1970s in uniform format designed by Walter Nikkels, each in an edition of 750, the others covering Dan Graham, Niele Toroni and Lawrence Weiner. Nikkels was Professor of Typography at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf from 1985 to 2008 and worked extensively with the Van Abbemuseum and the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. Softcover, stiff printed wraps, black and white illustrations, approximately 27 by 21 centimeters. Stated edition of 750 copies. Condition Notes: Toning and soiling on front cover. Toning on rear covers (particularly near spine). Several small dents
