Original patterned cloth, lettered in black and gilt; pp. xiv, 466; viii, 472, [12, advertisements]; folding colour map to each volume; some marking and rubbing to bindings, else a good tight set, half-titles inscribed in 1877 by a Sackville Street drapers, Gills Co. Fifth edition ( i. e. printing). Although he went on to work for The Times and also acted as the Earl of Dufferin's private secretary, Wallace is perhaps best known for his Russia .
