Original blue cloth and dustwrapper; pp. xii, 1120, b w photographic plates; with loose prospectus included; a little chipping to bottom of wrapper, otherwise near fine. Provenance : inscribed by Nixon to half title "To Emmanual Charles Guerra/ with best wishes/ from/ Richard Nixon/ 8-23-78". Guerra was an employee of Wells Fargo based in San Antonio, where Nixon was a regular visitor particularly after the speech he made as Vice President at the Alamo in 1960 which was pivotal in his career. Second printing. Nixon's enormous volume of memoirs is a great work of self-justification, but always provides valuable narrative around the conduct of the Vietnam war and the civil rights controversies.
